French military veterinarians during the First Empire (1804-1815)

This article presents the role of the French military veterinarians in the napoleonic armies. The number of military veterinarians and its evolution during the French First Empire are explained. Recruting modalities, statutes and ranks of the veterinarians are detailed. The exercice of veterinary medecine in the army and the uniforms of the military veterinarians are presented.
